Adoor, An Aesthtic Difference to Behold

Being one among the three prominent municipalities in Pathanamthitta district, Adoor possess a few unique features that distinguishes it from other business centers in Kerala. Its matchless cultural and traditional heritage can be well perceived in its art and religious institutions strewn around.

The Parthaswarathy temple at Adoor is an epitome of this. The majestic Gajamela (elephant's festival)conducted here as a culmination of the 10 day annual festival draws in swelling crowds including International tourists. The Chandanapally Valiyapally, located a few miles away from Adoor, hosts the chempuduppu, a very popular ritual from the age old times of Kerala history. Hermon Aramana, the headquarters of Adoor Diocese of Marthoma Church, and the Marthoma Youth Center are other culturally important places in Adoor.

Highlighting the culture of Kerala, maramadi is conducted annually a few miles away from central Adoor. A kind of bull race, it is a highly famed harvest sport in Kerala almost similar to Jellikattu in Tamil Nadu. The Pandalam palace, believed to be the birth place of the Hindu deity, Lord Ayappa, situated just 10 km away from the central Adoor is a must sight for many tourists and religious aspirants.

Adoor has now grown into a new business center, accommodating many establishments of various social significance. Educational institutions, well equipped hospitals, star hotels, trade centers and better transportation facilities add a new dimension to the changing face of the city. St. Thomas Engineering college, a formation of Palazhi group, is a premier technical educational institution in Adoor, reckoned for its infrastructure and flawless administration. Palazhi group has also contributed a few other innovative infrastructure in social sector including the present luxury hotel- Wyte Portico. It is hard for any new visitor of Adoor to miss the lofty sights of these buildings.
